Endocrine Today has written an article about Dr. Jeannie Concha’s paper Culture-centered approaches: the relevance of assessing emotional health for Latinos with type 2 diabetes. This paper examines whether medical doctors are asking Latinos with diabetes about emotional problems, an important comorbidity in diabetes care.

Dr. Mezuk wins Busse Research Award in Social & Behavioral Sciences
Dr. Mezuk has been awarded the Busse Research Award in Social & Behavioral Sciences by the Duke University Center on Aging.
This award, given in honor of Duke Aging Center founding director Edwald W. Busse, is awarded in recognition of significant contributions to research on aging.
Dr. Mezuk will receive the award and give a presentation on her work on September 25.
Dr. Mezuk to give keynote address on prediabetes and mental health
Dr. Briana Mezuk will be a keynote speaker at McGill University’s Conference on Prediabetes and Mental Health.
This conference, which will be held November 12-13 in Montreal, Quebec, will bring together researchers, policy-makers, and other stake-holders to share knowledge on the role mental health may play in the transition from prediabetes to type II diabetes, and to identify future research priorities in this area.
Dr. Briana Mezuk receives tenure
In recognition of her record of excellence in research, teaching, and service, Dr. Briana Mezuk has been awarded tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.

Dr. Jeannie Concha wins Summer 2015 Travel Award
Dr. Jeannie Concha has received a Summer 2015 Travel Award from the Virginia Commonwealth University Postdoctoral Association.
Dr. Concha will be presenting at the Collaborating across Borders V, the Interprofessional Journey conference in Roanoke, VA on “Interprofessional Education to Promote Culturally Competent Diabetes Care”.
