Dr. Mezuk has been awarded the Busse Research Award in Social & Behavioral Sciences by the Duke University Center on Aging.

This award, given in honor of Duke Aging Center founding director Edwald W. Busse, is awarded in recognition of significant contributions to research on aging.

Dr. Mezuk will receive the award and give a presentation on her work on September 25.

Dr. Briana Mezuk will be a keynote speaker at McGill University’s Conference on Prediabetes and Mental Health.

This conference, which will be held November 12-13 in Montreal, Quebec, will bring together researchers, policy-makers, and other stake-holders to share knowledge on the role mental health may play in the transition from prediabetes to type II diabetes, and to identify future research priorities in this area.

In recognition of her record of excellence in research, teaching, and service, Dr. Briana Mezuk has been awarded tenure and promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.

Dr. Jeannie Concha has received a Summer 2015 Travel Award from the Virginia Commonwealth University Postdoctoral Association.

Dr. Concha will be presenting at the Collaborating across Borders V, the Interprofessional Journey conference in Roanoke, VA on “Interprofessional Education to Promote Culturally Competent Diabetes Care”.

GREMAP alum Kristen Rice, MPH recently participated in the White House Conference on Aging (http://www.whitehouseconferenceonaging.gov/) through her role as a research associate with the Lewin Group. Congrats Kristen!

Dr. Moon Choi, Assistant Professor at the Korea Advanced Institute for Science and Technology and former post-doctoral fellow at VCU, visited the Division of Epidemiology on July 7th and presented a seminar entitled “When the longevity revolution meets the data revolution.”

Congratulations to Prachi Desai, MPH on her graduation from the VCU Master’s in Public Health program! Prachi presented her capstone titled “Evaluation of the Greater Richmond Area YMCA Diabetes Control Program” at the MPH Capstone and Poster Presentation Forum on May 1 and graduated the following week on May 8. She has accepted a position as the Waterborne Disease Surveillance and Outreach Assistant in the Division of Environmental Epidemiology at the Virginia Department of Health.
