Lauren Gray

Education:

MPH, MSW (in progress)
Virginia Commonwealth University

BA, Geography
University of Mary Washington, 2010

Research Interests/Current Projects:

My primary research interests include chronic diseases and mental health/psychiatric epidemiology, as well as community health programming design and evaluation.

What brought you to VCU and/or Public Health:

I have interned with the American Diabetes Association and volunteered at free health clinics which gave me a better understanding of the impact of chronic diseases, particularly on the older adult population and underserved communities. I was interested not only in research, but also in changing systemic problems which produce inequality, discrimination, and other social factors that influence health. The MSW/MPH dual degree attracted me to VCU because of its combination of training in epidemiological research and also practical social work skills in administration, education, and advocacy.

Hobbies or an interesting factoid:

Outside of school I enjoy hiking and camping, swimming, traveling, and spending time with family and friends (especially while enjoying Richmond’s many fine food establishments…).
