BA, Psychology, University of Virginia, 2012

Research Interests/Current Projects:

Julia is interested in psychiatric epidemiology and the relationships between mental and physical health, particularly relating to chronic conditions throughout the lifespan. She is currently the study coordinator for the Stress and Sugar Study, which seeks to understand how different aspects of stress contribute to type 2 diabetes. She also assists with the Mood and Immune Regulation in Twins Study and the Evaluation of the YMCA of Greater Richmond Diabetes Control Program.

What brought you to VCU and/or Public Health:

Julia came to VCU to pursue her MPH because of the close student-faculty interaction and numerous practical experience opportunities offered by the department. She enjoyed her graduate school experience so much that she decided to stay at VCU and work as a Research Associate for Dr. Mezuk after graduation.

Favorite things about VCU/Richmond:

What Julia likes most about Richmond is the variety of activities the city has to offer. Some of her favorites include shopping in Carytown, trying new restaurants, and going to Richmond Flying Squirrels baseball games.
